About
Founder
Sovereign Books was founded by the great grand-daughter of Sadha Kaur, grand-daughter of Prakash Kaur Sandal and daughter of Manjit Jhakra.
Known to some as Parminder Kaur, the idea for this project came whilst enjoying Simran one Friday morning in Leeds. After a decade of community organising and activism, and a lifetime of having her voice silenced, Sovereign Books was born.
Aside from kirtan, sangat and simran, Parminder Kaur enjoys Sci-Fi (particularly Ursula K Le Guin), music (particularly Evanescence) and cuddling her cat.
The Spirit of Sovereign Books
Society is shaped by stories. But who gets to tell those stories? In our current reality, caste and class systems reign supreme, something Guru Nanak fought to dismantle.
Those who are deemed ‘less than’ in this system are kicked to the margins, and the same stories are told, retold, and told again. We don’t even need humans to do it, as AI churns out brainrot for the masses.
Sovereign Books is our haven, a safe place to let our imaginations run free. This indie publishing house is for excited readers and adventurous hearts, hungry for beauty and originality.
Out with the cop dramas, thrillers about killers, and lusty trash.
In with…well, let’s see where the ink flows!
